Bennett Wins White Race

July 17, 2009 - (KAUKAUNA, WI) Lowell Bennett of Neenah took home the checkered flag in the 75-lap White Race, making it two for two in the Red, White and Blue State Championship Series. Bennett started the race from the sixth position, while Doug Mahlik took the early lead, followed by Tom Gee Jr. and Andy Monday. Mahlik pulled out to the early lead, while Jeff Van Oudenhoven worked his way into the top five. Bennett pulled inside Monday on lap eight to take third position, while Van Oudenhoven waited until the next lap to make his move. Bennett closed in on Gee Jr., pulling alongside him on the front straightaway on lap eleven. Bennett now set his sights on Mahlik, who had pulled away from the field. Van Oudenhoven passed Gee Jr. coming out of turn two just two laps later. The field remained single file until Bennett dove inside Mahlik on the front stretch on lap nineteen, leading that lap, while they raced side-by-side through turn three.

Dan Lewis Photography - danlewisphoto.netCaution slowed the field on lap twenty five when Kyle Calmes and Eugene Gregorich Jr. got together in turn four. The restart allowed Van Oudenhoven to start on the outside of the front row, pulling ahead of Bennett in turn three. Van Oudenhoven and Bennett remained single file, pulling away from the rest of the field. Bennett made his winning pass on Van Oudenhoven, coming to the start finish line on lap thirty nine. The two raced side-by-side through turn one and two, with Bennett pulling ahead coming out of the backstretch. Bennett never looked back, pulling ahead of Van Oudenhoven and finishing 3.5 seconds ahead. Tim Rothe finished third, followed by Mahlik, and Mark Schroeder. Van Oudenhoven still remains the Fox River Racing Club point leader by 39 points over Bennett. In the Red, White & Blue standings, Bennett holds a six point lead over Van Oudenhoven.

In limited late model action, Gary Natrop was in third position, following Kris Kelly and Jim Duchow with five laps to go when the caution came out. Kelly spun coming out of turn two after contact with Duchow, the two were sent to the back of the field, making Natrop the leader. On the restart, Natrop pulled ahead, maintaining the lead to win his first feature of the season. Jack Pankratz finished second, followed by Brandon Conrad, Jessie Van Roy, and Tanner Bohlen. Kelly worked his way back up to sixth position, while Duchow settled for eighth. Kelly remains the point leader by 105 points over Natrop, Duchow is in third position, 119 points behind. Duchow is the Red, White & Blue points leader by 1 point over Kelly.

Schwalbach had 1.5 second lead over Todd Baumann, Dan Gracyalny, Dylan Wenzel, and Sawyer Effertz. Baumann continues to be the point leader stretching it to 27 points over Effertz.

Josh Jeske won the 20-lap Sport Truck feature event. Jeske had been running in the fourth position behind Jacob Boldig, Jason Plutz, and Dan Vixmer with just two laps to go, when he shot past Vixmer and Boldig. Rounding turn four on the final lap, Jeske drove inside Plutz and the two raced side-by-side to the checkered flag. Jeske won by 0.003 seconds, crossing the finish line just ahead of Plutz. Boldig finished third, followed by Vixmer and Ron Magdanz. Magdanz remains the points leader, ahead of Vixmer by 46 points.

Wacek took the checkered flag in the first feature, followed by Cody Kippenhan, Tim Richter, Wayne Sonkowsky, and Rachel Meyerhofer. Richter won the second feature, followed by Tom Schweitzer, Sonkowsky, Andy Wiese, and Kyle Fink. Richter remains atop the standings by 39 points over Schweitzer.

Terry Van Roy won the 15-lap Figure Eight race. Dan Gracyalny was second, followed by Willy Van Camp, Jeff Zwiers, and Daniel Hoppa.
